Glenda Cadogan is a prominent media consultant/publicist, prolific journalist and speechwriter who has served New York’s diverse Caribbean American community for the past 18 years. A proud national of Trinidad & Tobago, Ms. Cadogan has written well over 2,000 articles that have chronicled a wide range of issues.
She studied creative writing at the University of the West Indies as a launch pad for what would prove to be an impressive career. She began writing professionally more than 20 years ago as an entertainment and sports reporter with Trinidad & Tobago’s leading weekly newspapers. In her early years, she also covered sports for the Trinidad Guardian, the country’s premier daily. Ms. Cadogan migrated to New York City in 1989 and continued to sharpen her skills by studying journalism at New York University. She immediately plunged into America’s social, political and cultural milieu. Recognizing immediately that New York’s Caribbean population could benefit from her media adroitness, she quickly identified the issues and articulated an unequivocal immigrant position from such media vehicles as The New York Amsterdam News, Caribbean Life, City Sun, Daily Challenge, Christian Times, Everybody’s Magazine, Positive Community Magazine and The Immigrant’s Journal. In 1998, she established Mauby Media Services, a media consultancy and coaching company through which she handles diverse client needs – from promoting low-budget Caribbean cultural organizations to managing large media campaigns for city and state government candidates. Her client list includes the Government of Antigua, (Antigua Carnival); State Senator Kevin Parker, Jersey City West Indian American Day Carnival Association, the Brooklyn Parang Association, The West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) and The Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad & Tobago.
She is one of the most sought after publicist and event planners in Brooklyn’s Caribbean community. As an event planner, she undertook the successful coordinating of the historic community visit of Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister -- Kamla Persad-Bissesar. She was also the event coordinator for the Brooklyn community event to welcome Winston “Gypsy” Peters in his capacity as Trinidad & Tobago’s Minister of Art and Multiculturism.
In the Fall of 2010, she created and produced the community and television series: Friday Night Fireside Chats. The successful 5-part series produced by Sesame Flyers International showcased some of the “everyday celebrities” of Brooklyn’s Caribbean community.
Over the years Ms. Cadogan’s work has also been published in several mainstream newspapers and magazines including BWIA In-flight Magazine, The New York’s Daily News and Black Elegance Magazine. She also edited the Daily News’ Kwanzaa supplement for two years, and served as associate editor of the paper’s Caribbeat publication. Ms. Cadogan has won several writing awards including Best Feature Article and Best News Story from the Caribbean Media Association of New York.
In addition to her media honors, Ms. Cadogan has also been recognized for her unselfish contribution to the Caribbean and African-American community. Her awards include the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (CACCI) Woman History Maker Award, Trinidad & Tobago Alliance Outstanding Community Service Award and State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s Certificate of Merit. In August of 2004, on the occasion of the Independence of Trinidad & Tobago, she was presented with a Proclamation from the New York City Council in recognition of her contribution to the upliftment of Caribbean culture in the Diaspora. Most recently she received an international award from the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism for excellence in journalism throughout the years.
A gifted speech writer, Ms. Cadogan has penned the speeches of media moguls, politicians and business executives. She also ran the successful media campaigns of elected officials in every branch of government.
